Volunteer in Bucaramanga, Colombia

At Kasa Guane we believe in positive tourism. That is having a positive impact on the people and places that you pass on your travels.

There are many ways to do this but here at the hostal we have three main ways to get involved:

  1. Our foundation, Goals for Peace Colombia Bucaramanga.
  2. Teaching conversational English to kids at the Cooperative College Bucaramanga
  3. Helping out at the hostal

Goals for Peace Bucaramanga

Goals for Peace International is an organization that aims to help improve the lives of people that do not have the same opportunities in life that we do. It is currently working in Bucaramanga, Colombia and in the Philippines.

Kasa Guane helped set up Goals for Peace Bucaramanga in October 2012 using money from local donations and help from friends. We are working in an area in the North of Bucaramanga called Olas 2 or Olas Bajas. Currently there are around 30 children (boys and girls) between the ages of 4 and 12 years coming every Saturday morning from 8am until 1pm.

We usually start the day with a warm up followed by a catch up chat and some fruits and refreshments. Then we go in to some football training activities and have a game. There are always some kids who don’t want to play football so we play other games with them or encourage them to take photos or videos, practise English, whatever keeps them entertained.

We use football as a way to engage and encourage the children to attend but the main focus of the project is to teach and enforce positive moral values and promote positive development. We do things like art workshops, dance, theatre, English classes and

2. Working with the Cooperative College Bucaramanga

As of February 2012 we have been working wtih the Cooperative College Bucaramanga on a programme called “Puente” which is funded by Rotary and works to help children from less privaledged backgrounds learn English with native speakers.

You can help by going to the school any weekday and helping the kids with their English. It’s a great way to encourage them to learn and bring some fun into learning a foreign language.

3. Working at the hostal

The previous two options are working with social projects helping the people of Bucaramanga, this option is you helping us :) . We are always looking for realiable, trustworthy and postive people to help us out in the hostel.

If you would like any more information on any of these opportunities please get in touch with us at;
